Cheri was born and raised in East Vancouver. As a small child she was exposed to many hardships and less than desirable situations. Her mother was her biggest supporter, especially through her teenage years, dealing with her own mental health. “Having someone I could talk to without judgement, knowing exactly what I was feeling without explaining it in full detail” Cheri was introduced to her first non-judgemental space. “I was able to express myself and feel comfortable and safe.” She was able to speak freely about her Panic Attacks and Depression.
As Cheri was coming into her own as an adult; addiction came into her family life to complicate things further. “This is something that terrified me for many years as I saw the effects that addiction had on our family”. Cheri was thrust into a caregiver position at a young age. “My anxiety got out of control and I had a difficult time leaving the house”.
In 2006 she met her husband and again things changed. They moved to Edmonton and started fresh together. It was there where the journey into self-care and healing began. Cheri began taking courses and learning different ways to live with and overcome her Depression and PTSD. This journey has been going on for many years and will continue for many more.
“I believe through self-care, mindfulness, and resiliency we can continue to learn, grow and develop ourselves creating a healthy balanced wellbeing.”
